Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Johannesburg

Arrival transfer with meet and greet and orientation tour of Johannesburg. Some call Johannesburg “Jo’burg” or “Jozi or “City of Gold.” Enjoy a city tour of the financial capital of South Africa before being transferred to your hotel – at leisure until dinner at hotel. Overnight Johannesburg (D)

Day 2

Pretoria – Mpumalanga – Hazyview

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out. Depart Johannesburg and head for Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city, for a short orientation tour, before continuing to the Mpumalanga Province, known as “Paradise Country.” Dropping several hundred feet into the lush subtropical region of the Lowveld, we travel via the historic towns of Dullstroom and Lydenburg. After traversing the famous Long Tom Pass, we travel via Sabie and arrive late afternoon at Hazyview – at leisure until dinner at the hotel. Overnight Hazyview (B, D)

Day 3

Panorama Route – Hazyview 

 

After an early morning breakfast, we’ll drive along the spectacular ‘Panorama Route,’ offering views of amazing scenery, including the 26-kilometre long Blyde River Canyon (home to the Three Rondavels), Bourke’s Luck Potholes and historic God’s Window, a breath-taking view (weather permitting) of the edge of the escarpment taking in the Kruger National Park. We arrive back in Hazyview in the late afternoon, where the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax – at leisure until dinner at the hotel. Overnight Hazyview (B, D)

Day 4

 Eswatini (Swaziland)

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out. Travel via Nelspruit to the Kingdom of Eswatini. Despite being the smallest landlocked country in the Southern Hemisphere and the second smallest country in continental Africa, Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, more than makes up for its lack of size with a hugely diverse range of attractions

Before arriving at the hotel, we stop at the Ngwenya Glass Factory, where a small group of Swazi craftsmen and women – with age-old artistry – breathe life into enchanting interpretations of the animals and birds of Africa, imbuing each with its own irresistible personality. Witness first-hand the magical art of glassblowing from an overhead balcony. Each item is handmade from 100 % recycled glass! Browse around the adjoining showroom, which is well stocked, and purchase your little memento of a truly African visit to our Kingdom. Arrive at your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure before dinner at the hotel. Overnight Eswatini (B,D)

Day 5

Eswatini – Zululand – Hluhluwe

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out. We will continue south through Eswatini, visiting Swazi Candles before re-entering South Africa. An expedition to Swazi Candles is not just a candle experience. We are happily surrounded by other talented crafters, artists, and artisans, as well as a bustling market and souvenir shops. Sample some Black Mamba chilli sauce or stroll through the Yebo Art Gallery. The Sambane Tea Garden provides excellent meals, cakes, and daily specials in a beautiful shady garden setting. Finally, we re-enter South Africa and travel into Zululand, passing traditional round huts and endless vistas. Continue to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure until dinner. Day 6

Hluhluwe – Leisure 

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Today may be spent at leisure at the hotel or on optional activities such as game drives, visiting the reptile park, etc. dinner is included at the hotel this evening. A 6-hr 4X4 open vehicle safari offers you a better opportunity to witness the Big 5 while in the reserve travel from either the Hluhluwe side or the Umfolozi side, bearing in mind that the Umfolozi side offers better sightings of the cats. Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve is the oldest proclaimed Game Reserve in Africa. The Big 5, Cheetahs, and Wild Dogs may also be encountered while out on Safari. The Reptile Park, also known as Zulu Croc, is where you will see different snake, crocodile, spider, and iguana species. Take a walk through the park to see them all! One of our guides will be there to tell you about our animals and answer your questions. Lunch is at leisure and for your own account. Overnight in Hluhluwe (B,D)

Day 7

Lake St Lucia cruise – Durban – Umhlanga Rocks

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out. This morning we will join a cruise on Lake St Lucia (depending on favorable weather conditions) before departing for Durban. Our journey takes us past traditional Zulu Kraals, Eucalyptus plantations, and sugar cane fields. We arrive early afternoon, and the remainder of the day is at leisure to enjoy the private beach or amenities available at the hotel. Dinner is included at the hotel. Overnight in Umhlanga Rocks (B,D)

Day 8

Durban – Golden Mile – Umhlanga Rocks

 

Breakfast at the hotel. Travel along the Golden Mile, the revitalised beachfront promenade, continuing through the city, past City Hall to the harbour. Drive past the University of Natal – Durban Campus for the view below. We visit the peaceful Durban Botanic Gardens and conclude with a drive past the Moses Mabhida Stadium, one of the host stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup with a seating capacity of 55,500. Lunch is included and will be had at a local restaurant. Overnight in Umhlanga Rocks (B,L)

Day 9

Departure

 

Breakfast at the hotel, then check out. Spend the morning at leisure before your flight back to Johannesburg (not included – on own account) and connecting flight back home (B)
