Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival – Johannesburg

Arrival.  Transfer with meet and greet and orientation tour of Johannesburg.
Some call Johannesburg “Jo’burg” or “Jozi or “City of Gold”. The name refers to Johannesburg’s beginnings as a 19th-century gold rush town and today it is the country’s commercial center. Economic strength, energy, a beautiful climate, and commercial vitality make Johannesburg a fascinating destination. With around 5 million residents, it is the largest African city south of the Sahara. Around the city you will see many yellow-colored hills – called “Mine Dumps” – these were created from the underground soil from the early gold mines and are a unique feature of Johannesburg. Enjoy a city tour of the financial capital of South Africa before being transferred to your hotel – at leisure until dinner at hotel – Overnight Johannesburg (D)

Day 2

Johannesburg – Soweto

Breakfast at hotel. Today you will embark on a discovery of the racial segregation experienced by millions of South Africans a mere decade ago on your full day Soweto Tour. This tour takes you through the streets of Soweto and its adjoining townships. Taking in the bustling neighborhood life, we drive past Soweto’s informal settlements, the more affluent suburbs, visiting Hector Pietersen Museum and Mandela House (family museum). This tour provides an insight into the 1976 Soweto uprising, the apartheid system, and the birth of a new democratic country. Lunch is included at a local restaurant before continuing to the Apartheid Museum for a visit. South Africa’s struggle for liberation has been a journey of pain and strife. Freedom brought peace to our land in 1994 after centuries of colonialism and more than 40 years of life under apartheid. The permanent exhibition is a trip through time that traces the country’s footsteps from these dark days of bondage to a place of healing founded on the principles of a democracy.
